As one of the first great philosophers Socrates said, "We are discussing no small matter, but how we ought to live." Ethics and philosophy is not just about utilitarianism versus ethical egoism or psychological egoism. There are so many different subjects! - Everyone thinks about ethics and philosophy, even if they do not see it as that. Every decision we make is based on our ethical and philosophical beliefs. Philosophers have made huge impacts in our cultures. A modern day example is the Dalai Lama of Compassion, who is a great philosopher and has impacted many lives with his books and speaches and teachings. Religious books ( such as the Holy Bible, The Quran, Bagavad Gita, etc..) are also philosophical books, and of course as you know impact MANY peoples' lives and their decisions. Philosophy and ethics is all about asking if what we are doing is right, if something is true, and how should we live.. And I must agree with Socrates, that is no small matter and it does reflect our real-life values.

Yes and then consider the importance of Artificial Consciousness, this is not a small matter either, in spite that it may seem just another activity by some computer geeks. Consider for example the word "Inhumane"... To understand what is inhumane, we must understand what is human, and human is about human brain and humn mind. By some primitive behaviorist approach, this "human" is not much, a mere reflex automaton, and there is not much at all, which can harm a primitive automaton. But Artificial Consciousness is about modelling the aspects of consciousness in the computer, to find out experimentally much more about the brain. And this leads to very different conclusions, like human brain is something with infinite abilities and unlimited potential, beyond imagination. Now consider how this knowledge can influence politics or whatever where humans are involved. How can we have any idea whatsoever of what is inhumane, when we don't even try to find out what is human.

No I do not think that Morality-philosophy-and AI (if at all it can be made) are BS. These are different endeavor of human mind to understand itself and the society in which he/she wants to live. The contribution of each has to be taken into account and try if we can produce a better grounds for our present and future generations. attending too much to one aspect like (sophisticated calculators) and or to any side is not healthy to anyone. The point is now a days scientists have not much to say but since the field of Logic and Philosophy is rather empty of great guys- they dare to say what ever they want and even mixing up thing to their shortsightedness.
